Nature & hiking

Around Raben Steinfeld you’ll find numerous hiking and cycling trails through forests, fields and along the shores of Lake Schwerin. You can find hiking routes and tour suggestions on komoot or on the website of the state capital Schwerin. Cyclists will also find signposted routes, with overviews likewise available on komoot and Der Schweriner See. If you’d rather experience the lake from the water, you can find information on boat tours and waterways at meinestadt.de and Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

Around the water

At around 61 km², Lake Schwerin is the fourth-largest inland lake in Germany. Since the Paulsdamm causeway was built in 1842, it has been divided into a northern and a southern section, with towns such as Flessenow, Retgendorf and Hohen Viecheln on its shores. Several islands, including Lieps, Kaninchenwerder and Ziegelwerder, shape the lake’s scenery and are popular destinations for excursions.

Sightseeing

Just a few kilometres away lies the state capital Schwerin, home to the world-famous Schwerin Castle, the state theatre, and numerous museums. Nature lovers will find one of northern Germany’s most significant wetlands in the Lewitz landscape and bird sanctuary.
